Some people take their dogs with them everywhere they go. Some people really shouldn’t take their dogs with them. Some people take their dogs with them to places and they get afraid and bite people. And then they wonder why. I don’t think dogs are born to just “deal with it.” We have to teach them how to cope. Ideally, we do that in a way that makes the situation better and not worse. The first step is recognizing that just accepting whatever we throw at them is a skill, not a default. And that we have an obligation to understand when our dogs are telling us it is all too much for them.
