For both dog lovers and dog trainers alike, the Canine Nation articles explore the very human challenges we face in teaching and communicating with our dogs. Originally written for the online magazine Life As A Human, these articles explore a variety of topics around dogs, training, science, behaviour, psychology, philosophy, and more. In working with our dogs, I think it’s important to consider the very human issues of how we think and how that’s different from our dogs. In each article, I explore an aspect of working with dogs that considers both the canine and human sides of the equation. I’ve found great value in digging below the surface and looking more closely at what makes our relationship with dogs tick.
These articles cover a wide range of subjects. Some are serious looks at science and what it can tell us about dogs, behaviour and learning. Some are more light-hearted looks at life with dogs. And some are just my thoughts on dogs, the dog world, training, and just life with dogs in general. They are collected here for you to enjoy in no particular order; there is no progression you should follow. If you find a title intriguing, I hope you find my perspectives interesting.
